Building Hope Across Ohio: Wings of Resiliency Takes Flight
Turning loss into leadership and pain into purpose — one community at a time.
Wings of Resiliency: Building Hope, One County at a Time
Over the past few months, Wings of Resiliency has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. What started as a mission to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention has evolved into a statewide initiative — connecting schools, veterans, first responders, educators, and families with real resources that save lives.
We call it Project David — a collaborative effort uniting the VFW, VA CEPC, NAMI, AFSP, and now the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation. Together, we’re creating a model that links every corner of the state: schools, nonprofits, and mental health agencies working from a shared network, using data and collaboration to make sure no one falls through the cracks.
Right now, mental health and suicide prevention resources are scattered — good people doing great work, but often in silos. Our goal is to change that by building a connected statewide framework where data, resources, and relationships flow together — a system that finds those who need help, connects them quickly, and fuels community resilience.
Funding this vision isn’t about a single event. Yes, we’re launching things like the DMoney Honey fundraiser and hosting Resiliency Nights, but those are just the sparks. The real engine comes from grants, donors, and organizations who believe that mental health awareness should be as organized, connected, and measurable as any other public health priority.
The VFW has been an incredible ally, helping us identify locations and leadership for our first pilot events near Lorain County. Tomorrow, we meet with the People’s Project of the Lorain County Community Board, and we have outreach underway with eight school districts and a dozen mental health organizations ready to get involved.
We’re proud of how far this has come — and we’re just getting started. If you’re connected to schools, nonprofits, healthcare systems, or businesses that want to help fund, host, or expand this effort, we’d love to hear from you.
Together, we can make mental health education and suicide prevention accessible, visible, and actionable in every Ohio community.
